Located in the vibrant heart of Tokyo, Tsukiji continues to thrive as a cultural haven, even after the historic fish market’s relocation to Toyosu.

This transition has not only preserved Tsukiji’s rich vibrancy but also infused it with new cultures, enabling further growth.

Far more than a mere tourist spot, Tsukiji offers an immersive exploration into Japanese culinary culture, presenting a diverse array of food and a unique ambiance.

Having lived near Tsukiji for over a decade, I’m keen to share four must-experience highlights for couples.

Embarking on an unguided exploration of Tsukiji’s labyrinthine alleys offers a unique glimpse into the market’s allure.

Despite the outer market’s popularity among tourists, expanding your exploration to nearby areas like Tsukishima or Shinbashi reveals a world predominantly known to locals.

The Higashi-Ginza region, especially, is a culinary goldmine, with hidden gems situated behind the iconic Kabuki-za Theatre. Noteworthy spots include “YOU,” celebrated for its omurice, and “Hanayama Udon,” famous for its thick noodles. To avoid long waits, visiting these establishments on weekdays is advisable.
